H. Deets Warfield Covered Bridge

H. Deets Warfield Covered Bridge

"H. Deets Warfield Covered Bridge, built in 1966, spans a pond on a private farm in Damascus, off route 27 and was built by H. Deets Warfield who was inspired by his brother-in-law, Hubert P. Burdette in Howard County. It departs from the 19th century tradition with steel supports and tiny glass windowpanes. According to Mr. Warfield's daughter, Joyce Rhodes, he added benches inside so his grandchildren could reach out the windows of the covered bridge to fish for bass and bluegill in the pond below." Baltimore Sun, 10/31/1993. H. Deets Warfield is a sturdy, 44 foot long, well maintained Romantic Shelter. Private property. Please ask permission to visit bridge. Photos taken 2005.
